Hiring Range: $28.06 - $32.27 hourly; $58,382 - $67,139 annually

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.
Depending on assignment, Recreation Coordinators may perform some or all the following duties:
- Plans, organizes, and promotes recreation programs and activities for various age groups including but limited to leisure classes, special events, athletics and historic preservation and cultural arts; arranges schedules, locations, and personnel to staff such activities.
- Coordinates talent, entertainment options and cinematic scheduling at select facilities.
- Leads a variety of department programs and leagues.
- Hires, instructs, and supervises volunteers, contract programmers, and paid staff. Assigns tasks and duties and schedules at programs, events, parks and facilities as needed to assure standards and requirements are being met.
- Promotes programs and events; solicits donations or sponsorships; contacts the media, prepares press releases, flyers, and brochures for marketing and promotion.
- Evaluates the interests of the community concerning recreation programming.
- Prepares, sends, tracks, and reports satisfaction surveys and other program evaluation data related to events, programs, leagues, and activities.
- Meets and coordinates with advisory boards as assigned with neighborhood and homeowner associations, public agencies, church and civic groups, and local businesses to advise groups of upcoming programs, and to seek input regarding areas of programming ideas; locates and secures remote public, private, and quasi-public facilities for programming use; acts as liaison with these groups.
- May be responsible for taking the lead on the city’s special event committee to ensure smooth facilitation of external events requiring city resources.
- Manages registrations and ticketing systems; schedules time and secures locations for a variety of programs, performances, games, practices, and special events; registers participants for various recreational programs and events; collects fees and completes proper forms; maintains record of programs and events.
- Assists in the preparation of the departmental budget; makes recommendations for the programming budget; assists in the management of the budget; processes purchase orders, maintains a current inventory of all program material and supplies
- Monitors and assists in ensuring a clean and neat appearance of the parks and recreation facilities; to include some maintenance of such facilities as required.
- Assists with other departmental activities as needed; assists in the preparation of regular and special reports as needed; including but not limited to monthly program reports and CAPRA documentation. May be responsible for inventory management, ordering of concession supplies and alcohol control. Oversees completion of ABC reporting and licensing.
- Performs invoicing and payment processing for program registrations, event sponsorships, and facility rentals as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of recreational and leisure time programs.
- Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends, and developments in the field of public recreation.
- Knowledge of standard resources, materials, and facilities utilized in a public recreational program.
- Knowledge and ability to plan, execute, over-see, and deliver a variety of special events.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance tasks necessary to operate facilities in a safe and effective manner.
- Working knowledge Microsoft Office and ticketing systems.
- Ability to effectively plan and execute a year-round program of recreational activities
- Ability to plan and coordinate the work of contract programmers, and of temporary, volunteer, or paid workers
- Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in verbal and written forms.
- Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, citizens, employees, contractors, supervisors, participants, and other nearby P&R Departments.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, administration, or related field. with at least three years’ experience in program implementation and/or special events.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
