- A valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain prior to hire and a safe driving history is also required

JOB SUMMARY
The Hospitality Specialist is a part-time position performing skilled work in food and beverage service for the Parks and Recreation Department. Reporting to a Recreation Coordinator, the Hospitality Specialist works under general supervision sufficient to assess achievement of key performance indicators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.

  • Prepares alcohol and non-alcohol beverages for bar customers.
  • Interacts with customers, take orders, and serve drinks.
  • Assesses customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations.
  • Mixes ingredients to prepare cocktails.
  • Checks customers’ identifications and confirm it meets legal drinking age.
  • Selects and mixes ingredients, garnishing drinks, and serving customers.
  • Ensures bars are well-stocked and clean.
  • Operates cash register; counts start-up cash and ensures enough change is available; collects and accounts for fees.
  • Handles cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring all charges are accurate and return correct change to customers.
  • Uses point-of-sale tracking technology and bar and restaurant management platforms.
  • Opens and maintains tabs throughout shift.
  • Prepares mixers, juices, and cocktail garnishes.
  • Builds a rapport with regular customers to create a positive atmosphere.
  • Adheres to North Carolina’s Alcoholic Beverage Control laws and rules, and company policies.
  • Maintains a clean work environment by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing equipment.
  • Monitors the consumption of alcohol to ensure no under-age drinking is taking place and those guests consuming beverages are doing so responsibly.
  • Works independently to provide superior customer service.
  • Enforces rules and regulations.
  • Performs routine cleaning and custodial duties.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Typical Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent knowledge in mixing, garnishing, and serving drinks.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software such as Microsoft Office and POS systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work unusual hours, especially holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Must pass a drug test and criminal background check.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduate or GED; Proof of completion of approved NC ABC Commission Responsible Alcohol Server/seller program (RASP) within the past 12 months and at least every 3 years thereafter required.

Demonstrated working experience as a bartender.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
ServSafe Alcohol Certification preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years of age. A valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain prior to hire and a safe driving history is also required. This position is classified as safety sensitive and is subject to random substance abuse testing at any time for the duration of employment while occupying a safety sensitive position.
