Position Summary

This role is the Distribution Protection, Automation Control team lead for Carolinas West. The Lead Engineer is at the specialist level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work, and provide leadership to others in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and increased latitude for un-reviewed work.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily programming electronic reclosers for various applications.

  • Involved in supporting reliability initiatives such as event investigation.

  • Serves as a consultant for solar and battery interconnections.

  • Supports automation for self-healing configurations.

  • Interfaces with Transmission relaying on upstream relay coordination.

  • Networks with Standards on developing new protection tools and features.

  • Interfaces with Grid Management on temporary switching for project work.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

  • Coaches and mentors other engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals.

Required/Basic Qualifications

Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program AND/OR a PE

Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience

Professional Engineer licensure required (current standing)

A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in engineering theories and principles.

  • Understanding of Distribution construction and automation standards.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Skilled principles of project management.

  • Experience in the utility industry.

  • Availability for storm response.

  • Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department, including familiarity with Cyme circuit modeling software and AcSELerator Quickset

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid - Predominantly office environment, with occasional field visits and travel to meetings.
