Primary Purpose:

To provide fast, easy, flexible and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to Front End Standard Practices, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Smile, greet each customer and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging with customers to create a personalized checkout experience
  • Guide customers to an open SCO register, supporting the SCO experience from start to finish, moving throughout the SCO area being attentive and inviting
  • Use Mobile Attendants, as needed, observing customers in service of Fast and Easy
  • Navigate customer flow being aware of the customer’s shopping trip
  • Assist customers on how to use Self-checkouts properly including use of the hand scanner for a Fast and Easy checkout experience
  • Respond timely to customer inquiries and self-checkout system notifications, including Everseen if applicable, in support of a hassle-free shopping trip
  • Monitor multiple self-checkouts for proper customer usage including the accurate scanning of each item
  • Remind customers of items located on the bottom of the cart or items under baby seats prior to them completing the transaction
  • When needed, assist in scanning the customer’s order and provide instructions on payment ensuring payment has properly processed
  • Complete self-checkout voids, age restricted item verifications, Everseen support (as needed) and any other SCO assist function in accordance with Front End Standard Practice
  • Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present
  • Follow procedures in handling proper acceptance and payment processing at self-checkout for checks, coupons, etc.
  • Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to service customers per service standards
  • Engage and identify self-checkout customers needing assistance
  • Is courteous and helpful to other associates and customers
  • Wear the Food Lion uniform, complete with name badge, when on duty, has a neat and clean appearance while adhering to Food Lion dress code
  • Collect and return shopping carts from the self-checkout area
  • Ensure the self-checkout area has a neat and clean presentation
  • Report any self-checkout issues to the Customer Service Manager or MOD
  • Adhere to all company guidelines, policies and standard practices
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting steps on self-checkout as needed
  • Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents
  • Notify QA of any cleaning issues or maintenance required on front end
  • Successfully complete computer-based training (CBT) and training aid courses
  • Ensure self-checkouts are supplied with proper bags
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job
  • Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use computers, smart devices, including the SCO mobile attendant, and other communication systems required to perform job functions
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. on occasion
  • Pull or push up to 75 lbs. on occasion
  • Stand 100% of the time, frequently walking short distances
  • Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants/flowers and household cleaners
  • Use hands to frequently/continuously to operate a variety of equipment such as self – checkout or cash register
  • Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level: occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
  • Meet established volume activity standards for the position
  • Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
  • Have sufficient visual ability to check ID cards, checks, invoices and any other mobile handheld devices
