Position | Residence Hall Director | Division: | Student Affairs | Department: | Residence Life | Reports to: | Dean of Students and Residence Life | | Position Summary | The Residence Hall Director is a 12-month, full-time, live-in professional staff member responsible for the overall management, administration, and supervision of a residential community at Livingstone College. This position plays a vital role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential environment that supports student success, leadership development, and community standards. The Residence Hall Director serves as a primary resource for residential students and is responsible for supervising student staff, addressing Level one student conduct concerns, coordinating educational programming, managing administrative operations, and responding to emergencies and crises within the residence hall community. The Residence Hall Director reports directly to the Dean of Students & Residence Life. | | Essential Duties & Responsibilities The results you will deliver each day that matter most! | Student Staff Supervision - Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants (RAs) and other student staff.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and individual supervisory sessions.
- Provide leadership development and ongoing support to student staff members.
- Ensure student staff fulfill assigned responsibilities and departmental expectations.
Student Conduct - Address student behavior concerns and enforce residence hall policies and procedures.
- Maintain an understanding of the Livingstone College Student Code of Conduct and judicial processes.
- Investigate and document incidents occurring within the residence hall.
- Meet with students regarding level 1 policy violations and behavioral concerns.
- Assist with conflict mediation and student accountability initiatives.
Community Development and Programming - Develop and promote educational, social, cultural, and wellness programs within the residence hall community.
- Advise and support Residence Hall Council activities and initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive and engaging residential environment that encourages student involvement and leadership.
- Collaborate with campus departments to provide educational opportunities for residents.
Crisis Management and Student Support - Respond appropriately to emergencies, student crises, and after-hours incidents.
- Provide conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and referrals to appropriate campus resources.
- Serve in an on-call rotation for residence life emergencies and student concerns.
- Maintain accurate documentation of incidents and follow-up actions.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities - Oversee daily administrative operations of the residence hall.
- Conduct regular room inspections and facility walkthroughs.
- Report maintenance concerns and coordinate follow-up with Facilities Management.
- Assist with occupancy management, room assignments, check-ins, and check-outs.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and housing documentation.
- Ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies.
Departmental Involvement - Participate in departmental planning, training, assessment, and decision-making processes.
- Serve on institutional committees and represent the Office of Residence Life as assigned.
- Assist with major departmental initiatives including orientation, opening, closing, and staff selection processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
| | Education/ Experience What you will need to be successful! | Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential programming, residence life, student affairs, or related areas.
