The W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center is seeking a Certified Mid-level Physician Assistant within the Specialty Care- Gastroenterology section of Medicine Service for treatment of patients with Gastroenterology conditions. The incumbent will evaluate and diagnose common Gastrointestinal conditions to develop effective treatment strategies in accordance with accepted societal and VA guidelines.Major Duties
The W.G. (Bill) Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a Certified Mid-level Physician Assistant in Gastroenterology for the Specialty Care section within Medicine Service in Salisbury, North Carolina. The Physician Assistant will assist the Advanced Endoscopy faculty in expanding the ERCP /EUS/ program as well as Interventional Endoscopy services. The Physician Assistant will establish and maintain professional relationships within Medicine Service, and with other services and facility management which result in improved patient care. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Clinical: Manage patients with pancreaticobiliary disease and GI cancers Understand advanced procedures like Endoscopic Ultrasound and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio pancreatography Maintain predominantly out patient clinics in advanced GI (pancreaticobiliary disease) with a few sessions of general GI Drive additional volumes, growth of procedure volumes and off load follow up return patient care Have shared clinics and supervision for the first year or until needed. Rounding on inpatient EUS/ERCP patients in SBY or post procedure admissions (as needed) Recognize differences between acute and chronic conditions and with a specialized skill set, when something is NOT attributable to gastrointestinal dysfunction. Be able to analyze results of specific serologic tests, imaging and ancillary testing specific to gastrointestinal problems. Distinguish between those patients based on history, physical findings, objective testing Vets needing care and follow up vs those who can be set back to Primary Care for management. Facilitates patient's entry and exit from various health care systems by establishing and maintaining liaison with a variety of medical specialists and associated staff. Utilizes and promotes approved standards of care, procedures, methods and techniques, safety precautions and protocols in their application to the gastroenterology patient population in all settings. Collaborates with other health care resources to insure continuity of care. Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical center staff Administrative: Serve as the primary resource for outpatient pancreaticobiliary consults, assessing patient acuity and appropriately schedules evaluations. Maintains advanced GI database and monitors laboratory evaluations for the outpatient gastroenterology population. Completes patient's disability and insurance forms as needed. Arranges for gastroenterology procedures and interventions with the Radiology and Surgery services. Oversees scheduling to the outpatient gastroenterology clinics with resolution of scheduling conflicts. Education/Research: Promotes and participates in the delivery of patient and family health and gastroenterology education. Participates, directs, and provides opportunities for staff development through in-service education as needed. Assures self-development responsibilities and maintains current knowledge of trends in gastroenterology and clinical medicine Participates in Gastroenterology Section's clinical research programs when appropriate.
